The second-generation superstar Cody Rhodes made a sensational return to the WWE on Wrestlemania 38 as the surprise opponent for Seth Rollins. Since then there was this “Complete the Story” chant going around that would see him win the WWE Championship. It was something that his father (Dusty Rhodes) couldn’t do.
During the Wrestlemania 39 main event most expected Rhodes to leave the building with the Championship but the creative team went with Roman retaining the title probably for him to stay as Universal Champion for 1000+ days.
Recently an interview with Robbie Fox, Rhodes opened up by saying that after the match he told himself verbally to “get up”. Cody also said “I know everybody was like, Oh my gosh, the WrestleMania main event, hardest match to get into. Oh, your dad never did that. All that stuff. The only thing I learned was, Well, you gotta get back.”
The American Nightmare also mentioned that he needs to fight and create more opportunities for next year. “The only thing I learned was well, I gotta get back. I gotta get back and I gotta win. I can’t call it, I gotta win. That was bittersweet, I mean more bitter than anything,” he stated.
The American Nightmare also mentioned, “The only thing I was trying to do was look at as many fans as I could and let them know it’ll be okay. It was a very tense, awkward, cold feeling at WrestleMania 39 so it opens up opportunities for WrestleMania 40 perhaps to be a different feeling,” he added.
With the 40th Anniversary of Wrestlemania taking place in Philly next year, Cody Rhodes is sure that the crowd will back him up to a much higher extent. Being a Star Wars fan, he said that if Wrestlemania 39 was “ The Empire Strikes Back”, 40 is going to be “The Last Jedi”.
Cody Rhodes overcame the Beast Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam
Post his WrestleMania match, Cody Rhodes entered a feud with Brock Lesnar with the American Nightmare winning the feud with two wins out of their trifecta. The latest one was at Summerslam. The former AEW star spoke in high praise of his in-ring opponent and said that he is a unicorn and the Wrestling business will miss him the day he decides to leave.
During the aforementioned interview, The American Nightmare also spoke about how Brock Lesnar is in the shape of his life and has never been better and spoke in awe of his professionalism and integrity on and off the ring.
He also said that the match at Backlash at Puerto Rico in the trilogy was his favorite. But talking about his proudest moment in the WWE so far he mentioned the match at SummerSlam as after the match the viewers could see Brock finally appreciating Cody as a worthy opponent.
