There are almost a dozen matches that take place inside the WWE ring, but only a few make it to the category of best matches. Dwayne Johnson has given many classics during his active run with the WWE. However, there is one match that crossed all limits and got branded as the ‘Best WrestleMania match ever.’
WWE ring announcer Micheal Buffer took to Twitter recently and talked about the best WrestleMania match that he saw. He was unaware of the much-hyped WrestleMania 17 match between The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Buffer recently re-watched the match and has been left baffled by his execution.
“After so many fans mentioned 2001- WRESTLEMANIA 17 as the best ever, I watched last night & maybe they’re right as it was UNBELIEVABLE!” Buffer wrote. It was Steve Austin who still stood tall after the half-an-hour-long match. The Rock gave it all before losing his WWF Championship to Stone Cold who was helped by Vince McMahon.
You’re right, Michael. The match with Stone Cold and The Rock at Wrestlemania 17 has set the standards for the wrestling today. In my mind, nobody has ever come close. pic.twitter.com/rf6xBnfkiw

With Dwayne Johnson massively rumored to appear at WWE WrestleMania 39, hardly ten days away from now, the comments have had a great impact. In his control of the creative, Triple H has ensured a top-notch storyline and enthralling touch to the WWE Superstars. Following the same, he will not fall short to do the same at ‘The Grandest Stage Of Them All.’
How did Dwayne Johnson lose to Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 17?
The great rivalry between Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin had gathered heat for quite some time. With Steve’s wife – Debra also being involved in the ring, the feud became quite serious. The duo finally clashed on the night of April 1 in 2001 to balance the rivalries.

Moments before the two stars walked to the ring, the match was declared to be a ‘no disqualification match.’ The two superstars used all of their strengths to put their opponents down with their most iconic moves. The Rock performed a jaw-dropping Stunner to Austin. The audience hoped it to be the final move in the match but soon, the tables turned.
Vince McMahon soon made his way to the ringside to witness the match. Who knew that Vince would change the entire verdict of the match? Steve and Vince joined hands and thrashed The Rock until Austin became the new WWF Champion.
