One after another, things have started to crumble for Dwayne Johnson. This time around, it’s linked to the live-action reimagining of the 2016 animated version of Moana. To an overall commercial success at the box office, the 2016 movie grossed $248.7 million in the US and Canada, and $440.1 million elsewhere around the globe.
That amounts to a whopping figure of $690.8 million worldwide. One of the most powerful acts behind the movie’s groundbreaking glory was the quintessential voiceover of Moana, done by Auli’i Cravalho.

Just when the live-action sequence of Moana got announced, fans braced themselves for another noteworthy performance from the aforementioned actress. However, moments ago, the 22-year-old young gun shared a disheartening piece of news regarding her reprise of the role. Acknowledging the fact that she’s way beyond Moana’s actual age in the Dwayne Johnson-produced movie, Cravalho decided not to fulfill her ambitions by disappointing her fans.

Also, as an executive producer for the movie, she’s tasked to find a suitable replacement for voicing Moana to perfection. Expressing her unbelievable excitement for her next chapter as part of the movie, the Little Mermaid actress said, “I’m truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent to honor our incredible Pacific people’s cultures and communities that helped inspire her story and I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representation to come. Mahalo.”
As for Dwayne Johnson, he too did a voiceover for Maui, back in the original Moana, in 2016. However, unlike Cravalho, the Brahma Bull is set to reprise his own character from 7 years ago, the grandiose demigod of the wind & sea. The 51-year-old actor will produce the film alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia with the help of their Seven Bucks Productions.
Dwayne Johnson reportedly lost Disney role after kidnapping scandal
Being thrown around as the potential replacement for Johnny Depp in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean, the Black Adam star’s hope seems to have been buried. Amidst the recent kidnapping lawsuit over Johnson worth $3 billion gaining traction once again, Disney has reportedly parted ways with the actor.
For the unversed, the Great One got named as the potential mastermind behind running a conspiracy to kidnap former WWE employee Rhaka Khan and her children.
It remains to be seen as to whom Disney names as the ultimate replacement for Depp and now Johnson, to cosplay Captain Jack in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The People’s Champ already cut ties with the Fast and Furious franchise long ago. However, he’s returning after nearly 6 years away from the franchise ahead of Fast X’s premiere.
