WWE SmackDown’s recently held August 18 episode was a spectacular show with its fair share of ups and downs. But, the highlight of this week’s SmackDown was the 25th anniversary of Edge’s career in the company. The legend’s main event was a match against Sheamus, and they had an epic encounter in front of a hot Toronto crowd.
What’s more interesting is that reports have revealed that this was the last match of The Rated-R Superstar’s current WWE contract. These reports were also confirmed by the veteran himself, as he addressed them during a recent interview. He said, “Here’s what I can honestly say, and this isn’t the answer that everybody’s going to want: I truly don’t know“. (Via: Wrestling Inc)
As The Ultimate Opportunist participated in his final match on SmackDown, fans have been wondering if he’ll leave Triple H’s company to join AEW. So, let’s check out four possible reasons why Edge should move to the Jacksonville-based promotion.
To renew a classic WWE rivalry
The first and foremost reason for Edge to shift to the Jacksonville-based promotion could be to renew a classic WWE rivalry. This iconic feud can be against his in-ring rival and real-life friend Christian Cage, who has been a prominent name in All Elite Wrestling since his debut in 2021. Both of these competitors are veterans of the professional wrestling industry and share a lot of history together.
From starting their journey together in Canada to giving it their all against each other during their days at the Stamford-based promotion, they’ve been involved in a very personal rivalry. The WWE Hall of Famer and Christian have given some of their best performances against each other, and a possible feud against Cage could be the biggest reason for Edge to join AEW.
Tag team run with Christian
While a lot of you may remember The Rated-R Superstar and Christian as rivals, their best work in WWE was as a team. It was back in the late 1990s when they started competing as a team, and the results were epic. They soon became one of the biggest names in the tag wrestling scene and had memorable title reigns.
As Edge hasn’t been involved in a team for a long time, the desire to have a final tag team run with his former teammate can be the reason he decides to shift to Tony Khan’s company. If The Ultimate Opportunist decides to do so, there are plenty of exciting matches to unfold.
Their team can enter an entertaining feud against The Young Bucks or even challenge FTR for their titles. The opportunities are endless, but all that can happen only if The Rated-R Superstar joins the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Match against The Hardy Boyz
While Edge and Christian had a lot of exciting rivalries during their time as a team in the Triple-H-led promotion, there was one rivalry that stood above them all. It was none other than their memorable feud with The Hardy Boyz, consisting of Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy.
Both of these teams competed in a number of entertaining matches against each other, which had some of the most epic moments in WWE history. Looking at how there’s a good amount of gap left to be filled in AEW’s tag team division, a rivalry between The Hardy Boyz and the team of Christian and Edge could really take it to the next level. Thus, Edge could consider moving to Tony Khan’s company to have a match against The Hardy Boyz.
Possibility of numerous first-time-ever matches
Many may argue that Edge may not consider having a tag team run at this stage of his in-ring wrestling career. Taking this speculation into account, the thing that can attract The Rated-R Superstar to join the Jacksonville-based promotion is the possibility of having numerous first-time-ever matches in All Elite Wrestling.
If the WWE Hall of Famer decides to put an end to his stint with the Stamford-based promotion and shift to Tony Khan’s company, he can have a showdown for the ages against Kenny Omega. Additionally, he can even fight Adam Cole, or challenge the AEW World Champion, MJF, for the top prize in the promotion.
Whether Edge joins AEW or not is obviously a thing for the future, but if he really desires to do so, there are a number of great reasons to make the shift. It’ll be interesting to see when we get an official confirmation about the future of The Rated-R Superstar’s professional wrestling career.
