The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes is without any doubt among the biggest attractions within WWE. However, that was not always the case, as his previous run with the Stamford-based promotion wasn’t as great as he would have wanted it to be, and that’s why he left the company back in 2014 to make a name for himself.
Rhodes‘ dedication again opened WWE doors for him, and he eventually made a return at WrestleMania 38. While Cody’s hard work has helped him achieve a lot success in the industry, he doubted his career choice in his initial years. This happened after he watched Randy Orton cause a disaster with his superhuman strength.
The incident took place in Cape Town, South Africa, when The American Nightmare met The Viper for the very first time. As Orton’s actions showcased how much power he has, Cody felt uncertain about whether he himself really has what it takes to become a great pro wrestler.

Sharing details about what actually happened, Rhodes said, “I walked by the men’s bathroom and he had his hands around the urinal and he goes, hey Code, look at this. And he yanked the entire urinal out of the wall. I like a superhuman string plaster ripping off the thing flood just sweeping out in the lobby, and he giggled.”
As the 38-year-old was amazed by The Viper‘s strength he doubted his potential as a professional wrestler. However, looking at how successful he has been in his career, it’s safe to say that he made the correct decision by continuing being a performer in the pro wrestling industry.
Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes have a long history together
This dramatic incident took place during the initial years of Cody’s career, but later in his stint with the Stamford-based promotion, he shared a long history with Randy Orton. From competing as tag team partners to having a fierce rivalry, the duo did everything possible on their journey.
Cody and Randy’s history goes back to The American Nightmare’s debut on WWE RAW on July 16, 2007, as it was against The Viper. But, their association started back in 2008, when Rhodes and his partner, Ted DiBiase, joined forces with Randy to become a part of The Legacy. However, after about two years, their journey as partners ended in 2010.

Following this, both WWE stars competed against each other a number of times, in which The Legend Killer was victorious on most occasions. The veterans’ final match together was back in 2014, as Orton and Batista defeated Cody and his brother, Goldust, in a tag team match. (Via: TJR Wrestling)
Ever since The American Nightmare’s return to the Stamford-based promotion back in 2022, a lot of people have been requesting to renew this rivalry, but it hasn’t taken place. With Randy’s in-ring return still unknown, it seems that we’re not going to get this feud anytime soon. However, it’ll be interesting to see if the Triple H-led promotion really books it after The Viper’s long-awaited return.
