SUMMARY
- Previously, during the press conference, The Rock slapped Cody Rhodes in the face.
- Now, it seems that history might repeat itself when Dwayne Johnson goes to Philadelphia.
Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, recently made his return to WWE. Thereafter, he took shots at the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns. Also, a match between Johnson and Reigns was teased at WrestleMania 40, aka WrestleMania XL.
However, at the WrestleMania 40 press conference, The Rock sided with his cousin Roman Reigns and slapped Cody Rhodes. Following that, Johnson officially became a part of Reigns’ Bloodline stable.

With that, The Rock has a tag team match scheduled at WrestleMania XL, which is all set to take place at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. However, it seems that 25 years later, when Dwayne Johnson goes to Philadelphia for WrestleMania 40, history might repeat itself. Here’s how that might happen.
What happened 25 years ago in Philadelphia?
25 years ago, on March 28, 1999, WrestleMania 15 took place at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During that time, several matches were contested at the pay-per-view event. However, in the main event, The Rock battled Stone Cold Steve Austin in a no-disqualification match with the WWF Championship on the line.
Both Johnson and Austin put up a tough fight against each other. However, the outcome of the match saw Stone Cold defeat The Rock to win the WWF Championship. Meanwhile, 25 years later, The People’s Champion is all set for a match at WrestleMania 40, which is also scheduled to take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dwayne Johnson might lose the tag team match at WrestleMania 40
Dwayne Johnson has a huge match scheduled at the Grandest Stage of Them All. At the Premium Live Event, The Rock and Roman Reigns will face the team of Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag team match. This match is scheduled to take place on Night 1 of the event.
Meanwhile, on Night 2, Roman Reigns will defend his belt against Cody Rhodes. However, a stipulation has been added to the tag team match on Night 1. According to that, if Cody and Seth win the tag team match, then The Bloodline will be barred from ringside during Cody’s match on Night 2.
On the other hand, if Roman and Johnson secure the win, then Cody’s match on Night 2 will be based on Bloodline Rules. Thus, if WWE is planning to make The American Nightmare the winner on Night 2, then there’s a high possibility that Reigns and The Rock will lose on Night 1. Thus, the match between Roman and Cody will be free of interference.

Henceforth, history will repeat itself, and Dwayne Johnson will suffer the same fate as 25 years ago. At WrestleMania 15, he lost to Stone Cold in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Now, at WrestleMania 40, at the same location, he might once again lose to Cody and Seth.
However, only time will tell what lies ahead for The Rock. Meanwhile, WrestleMania 40 is all set to take place on April 6 and 7, 2024. Whatever the case, fans will look forward to the matchups at the biggest PPV event of the year.
