WWE legend Goldberg has been one of the most dominant performers to ever grace a ring in the professional wrestling industry. His dominance can be estimated from the fact that he won 173 matches in a row in WCW before suffering his first loss, which ended his historic winning streak.
The former Universal Champion has been a prominent figure in the Stamford-based promotion ever since its inception, and his latest run was highly appreciated by fans. One thing that’s been constant throughout Goldberg’s career is his iconic entrance, as it’s been loved by fans from the Attitude Era as well as the Modern Era.
Once the veteran was asked about the reason behind the success of his entrance and how it used to get fans engaged. While answering the question, the pro wrestling legend gave credit to Hulk Hogan for his success and shared that The Hulkster’s advice changed the landscape of his WWE career.
Bill said, “Hulk Hogan taught me 100 years ago. It’s not about how much you do, it’s about the quality of what you do. Make everything count. Less is more. Hulk didn’t have a repertoire of moves that he called upon to beat people day after day. You use what you need. Why not simplify it?“
Looking at the amount of success Bill enjoyed throughout his professional life, it’s safe to say that Hogan’s advice did wonders for the iconic WWE performer. The former Universal Champion’s last in-ring appearance in the Triple-H-led promotion was back in February 2022, as he lost to Roman Reigns at the Elimination Chamber premium live event.
Goldberg defeated Hulk Hogan to win his first World Championship
Hulk’s advice may have done wonders for Goldberg’s long pro wrestling career. But it must be remembered that Hollywood Hogan was the guy who Bill defeated to win his first World Championship. As The Hulkster was at his peak during those years, it was the biggest moment in the WCW veteran’s young career at that time.
This monumental win for Goldberg came at the Georgia Dome WCW Nitro on July 6, 1998, after he defeated Scott Hall earlier in the night to earn a title shot. It led to a title vs. streak match between Hollywood Hogan and Goldberg, and everyone believed that Bill’s streak would eventually end at the hands of Hulk.
However, Bill shocked the entire audience by defeating The Hulkster for the WCW Heavyweight Championship and thus winning his first-ever world title. This win not only gave him a well-deserved title run but also put him straight away among the top names in the pro wrestling industry.
Over the years, the WCW icon went on to be involved in some high-profile feuds and continued being a dominating performer in the Stamford-based promotion. It’s been over a year since Goldberg’s last match in WWE, but fans still await to watch him make his iconic entrance one more time. It remains to be seen if we’ll ever get to see Goldberg back in the Triple H-led promotion or not.
