Injuries in sports can be a dangerous affair, for sure. It can hamper the entire career of an athlete and wreck their life. While we all acknowledge that injuries are part and parcel of the game, it is something we hope no player comes across. It can interrupt their quality forever, and while rivalry does exist in sports, no fair opposition would want that.
Player injuries are most commonly seen in contact sports like football, soccer, boxing, MMA, or the UFC. In such sports, the danger of being physically affected is much higher in comparison to something like chess or golf. In football, the chances of getting injured are extremely high, as players are always engaged in a tussle.
Player injuries are very common and are seen every season. Even with the advanced level of safety equipment and regulations, a player is not immune, and injuries are bound to happen. However, injuries to the sideline personnel are rare and hardly occur. This was not the case for Nick Piazza, who felt the brute force of an NFL running back crashing into him.
Nick Piazza, who is part of the New Orleans Saints sideline crew, faced a brutal injury on December 3, which was a horrific sight. Alvin Kamara, who plays as a running back for the New Orleans Saints, crashed into Nick Piazza, whose leg bent around at a weird angle. The TV broadcasting team showed his leg bending for just a second before panning out towards the action.
Brutal collision with Alvin Kamara fractures Nick Piazza’s leg
Nick Piazza, who was working on the sidelines, was responsible for holding down the first marker. The incident occurred in the first quarter when quarterback Derek Carr, threw a pass towards Alvin Kamara, who was taken out by the Detroit Lions players. Unable to balance himself, Kamara collided with Piazza. Cameras showed Piazza’s leg turning awkwardly as he collapsed onto the ground.

It was later revealed that Nick Piazza was suffering from a dislocated knee and a fractured leg. The Saints confirmed that Piazza would be undergoing surgery. The only positive news from this incident was that Nick Piazza’s blood vessels were not impacted much and remained intact.
Nick Piazza’s injury served as an example for the NFL to further level up safety standards. While they are considering a lot of changes for the players, the same should be done for the sideline crew. Chain crew members are also exposed to a high chance of injury and need to be protected.
