SUMMARY
- Michael "Venom" Page believes Ian Garry's tendency to gym hop may eventually backfire.
- Garry claims he only accepted the MVP fight since Colby Covington has been running away from fighting him.
Michael “Venom” Page is all set to face a rising star in Ian Machado Garry. Page had made his debut on the UFC 299 fight card against No.15 ranked Kevin Holland. After a dominant win, Page was bumped into the rankings currently placed ahead of Holland. He’s viewed as a serious contender for the title based on the amount of success he’s already had in the sport.
Page is more or less a legend in the sport, but his work will be put to the test against Garry at UFC 303. The Irishman is coming off a victory against Geoff Neil that took place during UFC 298. Garry has been persistent in fighting higher-ranked opponents like Colby Covington, with whom he shares some bad blood. The 26-year-old claimed he only accepted the MVP fight since Colby had only been running away.
Michael “Venom” Page reasons why Ian Garry’s habit of hopping gyms will lead to his downfall
Michael “Venom” Page recently sat down with FreeStyleBender to discuss his upcoming matchup at UFC 303. MVP wasn’t afraid to share his opinion on what he’s noticed about Garry’s inability to stay loyal to one gym. Garry was also previously trained with current UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards with Team Renegade in Birmingham, England. Edwards claimed Garry’s attitude didn’t align with the nature of the gym.
MVP also highlighted a few aspects of Ian’s character saying, “The whispers are around that’s more a sense of his personality. He obviously doesn’t get on well with people, well with coaches for whatever reason. But I’ve seen a lot in my career, I’ve seen a lot of people that I like that, and they find they struggle to gain success because of that constant movement and constant inability.”
But as a veteran of the sport, Page shared a piece of advice to the rising star. He said, “He’s been successful this far but I think he’s going to have to try to knuckle down and focus in one place for a little while. And I think you learn better when you are working with people that you genuinely trust as well.” Garry can easily be compared to some of the biggest trash talkers in the game, such as Conor McGregor, someone he dearly looks up to as well.
Ian Garry doesn’t think MVP can become a UFC Champion
Machado seems to have it all figured out about Michael “Venom” Page. During his time at Bellator, MVP had a long journey to fight for the title. After achieving an incredible 20-1-0 record at the promotion, he finally earned his shot for the title against Logan Storey. The five-round fight ended in Storley’s favor via split decision. Garry claims that if MVP couldn’t win a title at Bellator, then he has no chance of achieving that goal in the UFC, a promotion known to have the most dangerous fighters ever.
Ian Garry doesn’t think MVP is good enough to beat him or anyone above him in the rankings:
“[MVP] never won a world title in Bellator… he couldn’t do it at Bellator he thinks he’s gonna do it here?

“He couldn’t do it at Bellator and he thinks he’s going to do it here? He’s not going to touch me and he’s not going to touch anyone above me in the rankings. This is the end of his career. I’m ten years younger, 11 years younger than him,” he said. Garry seems confident that he will stop the veteran from moving up the rankings. Garry himself is gunning for a title fight.
