Why Was Rey Mysterio Missing From Royal Rumble 2023?

WWE held their Royal Rumble Premium Live Event on Saturday where Cody Rhodes ended up winning the men's Rumble match after entering at the number 30 position.

One interesting thing that many fans noticed is that the men's Royal Rumble match only had 29 participants as WWE veteran Rey Mysterio failed to enter the match.

Mysterio who was scheduled to appear at the number 17 position didn't show up after his son Dominik Mysterio attacked Rey in the backstage area.

Dominik made his entry into the match with his dad's mask and he even disrespected Rey by tearing up the iconic mask while making his entrance.

Fans felt that Mysterio's absence was part of the storyline angle but it looks like that wasn't the case as the Mexican legend was legitimately injured before the show.

The injury reportedly happened during his recent match against Karrion Kross on last week's Smackdown where he was able to pick up the victory over the former NXT champion.

Circled Dot

Ringside News confirmed that Mysterio was booked to be in the match and was expected to build a future feud with his son Dominik Mysterio but WWE had to change the plans due to the injury.

It looks like the plan is to have Rey Mysterio vs Dominik Mysterio at Wrestlemania 39 and it'll be interesting to see how the company will get to the match after the big missed opportunity.
