As the welterweight division possesses strong contenders, the champ Leon Edwards is sitting comfortably after defeating former champion Kamaru Usman in the trilogy of their rivalry at UFC 286.

On the media day of UFC 291, Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson was asked what could be the result of a fight between the current welterweight champion and the #2 ranked welterweight Colby Covington.

As many may see the potential welterweight title fight as a competitive affair, Thompson believes it is a very manageable task for the champion considering his recent fights.

“Oh, I got Leon winning, I mean, you saw what Usman did to Colby in the last two fights. Colby is not a big welterweight, and Leon is fairly a big welterweight, a lot bigger than Colby." stated Thompson.

The rivalry between Edwards and Covington is not new to the MMA world. Since Edwards defeated Usman at UFC 286, Colby's views differed from the rest of the world as he claimed Leon as a cheater.

"He's out there poking the guy in the eye, kicking him in the n*ts, grabbing the fence, Then tries to deny it in front of the world, he's trying to deny it." told Colby in an interview with James Lynch.

Dana White also stated that Colby was a backup fighter for the welterweight championship and he deserves a shot at the title. Leon Edwards, however, denied to the statement.

"I don't know how that makes sense. He hasn't fought for over a year and a half. Sat out, not injured." Leon disapproved as he stated, there are also other guys in the division who are worthy.
