Throughout the 30-year history of the UFC, the promotion has witnessed an elite group of champions emerge from all of the divisions because of their skills and techniques.
Many great fighters like Anderson Silva, Randy Couture, Jon Jones, and Matt Hughes have graced the octagon with their performances, leaving a huge impact on the fans.
However, there were also many fighters who garnered a lot of fans with their world-class skill but could not rise above as champions. Let us check out five such fighters.
#5: Chael Sonnen, proclaimed the "Bad Guy," has been in the most heated feuds against his longtime rival, Anderson Silva, with whom he battled a few times but never won a title.
#4: Although having a successful winning run in both WEC and KOTC, Urijah Faber was able to grab opportunities for a title but was never able to reach the pinnacle of the elite.
#3: Despite having feuds with a lot of champions in the UFC, Nate Diaz is arguably one of the best fighters and has been a fan favorite, especially after his clash with Conor McGregor.
#2: Joseph Benavidez, rival to the great Demetrious Johnson, has had one of the most unsuccessful tries at the UFC title. However, Benavidez remains an elite fighter; he has never won a title.
#1: Stephen Thompson, One of the most elite strikers in the promotion has been in some of the most spectacular fights, also going on to draw against then-welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
