Ferguson's leg started bleeding in an unusual way during the bout. It was speculated that it was Diaz's leg kick which did this to Tony's leg.

Diaz defeated Ferguson by submission in the fourth round. The overall fight was close, competitive, and violent throughout.

Ferguson was originally supposed to fight Li Jingliang in the co-main event. But Khamzat Chimaev's missing weight led to this shuffle and he fought Diaz in the main event.

It was Ferguson's return to the welterweight after more than a decade. After today's loss, Ferguson is now on a five-match losing streak.

Fans are now calling for his retirement, saying that the American is ruining his long legacy.

UFC 279 was most likely Nate Diaz's last fight in the UFC. Diaz currently doesn't have any fight remaining in his contract with the company.

Nate Diaz was himself on a two-match losing ahead of Saturday's bout. Diaz had got a chance to end his career on a high.

In the reshuffeled co main event of UFC 279, Khamzat Chimaev submitted Kevin Holland well within the very first round registering his sixth UFC victory.
