One of the major headlines of 2022 was the "Will Smith–Chris Rock slapping incident" where Will slapped Chris Rock in response to his joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head.

Richard Williams, father of Serena and Venus Williams, recently broke his silence on the matter and spoke about the incident.

While speaking to The U.S. Sun, Richard raised his opinion on the issues surrounding Smith at the Oscars. He stated that although he won't judge the actor for his actions, he believes that he could've handled the situation in a better way.

He said- "I think that whatever he [Smith] wants to do, that’s what he should do. People are going to think what they want to think. If he apologized [that’s good], however, he wants to deal with the situation. I wouldn’t judge anyone,"

Richard Williams was portrayed by Will Smith in the movie "King Richard" which portrayed the rise of the Williams sisters to fame through the eyes of their father.

King Richard feels Will is a great deal for him and his family and the recent hate and banning actions on him are a bit excessive.

As per as revoking the Oscar is concerned, he said- "They should let him keep his Oscar, too. When a person [has] worked for [it] so much, then leave it alone. I really appreciate him doing so very much so I could never criticize him."

Although Will has publicly apologized to the veteran comedian, Chris believes that Will has been wearing a mask of a perfect man for 30 years and he just hopes him to be more real in the future.
