Serena Williams Is Hesitant About Her Retirement Decision

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, who proved last year at the US Open she can still fight with the best in the world, is still debating whether to change her mind about retiring.

Williams said, "I did play the other day, and there's just no way I shouldn't be playing tennis professionally. There is absolutely no justification. However, there must be an explanation, right? It's challenging because, when I'm playing, I constantly think, 'Oh my gosh, I'm quite good at this,' which not a lot of people can say."

Williams began learning how to play tennis at the age of three and achieved her first Grand Slam at the 1999 US Open when she was just 17 years old.

The American star is having second thoughts about returning to professional play after spending two decades competing at the highest level while also enjoying more time with her family away from the court.

"I definitely feel more at peace now," she continued, "It's fascinating. I believe that the reason I feel conflicted is that I can still play at an extremely high level. Having said that, I always aimed to finish the game at a very high level."

"I also intended to leave when I'm fit and doing well. However, I'm gradually accepting it as I lean away from it. Since it was difficult to quit cold turkey, I was still playing when I first retired. "

"I haven't played as much lately, though. I definitely miss it. I must go get there right away. But I find it challenging to get there", said Serena.

She added, "My entire life has been spent playing tennis. What I've done is all that I am and am aware of. But I really believe that striking a balance while having fun is important."
