The all-time leading international goal-scorer for Brazil, Neymar Jr., received a worrisome knee injury during their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match against Uruguay and left the field in tears.

After a disappointing home 1-1 draw result against Venezuela, Brazil suffered a 2-0 away defeat against Uruguay on October 17. However, the major issue for Brazil was Neymar's injury.

In the 44th minute of the match, soon after Brazil's first goal conceding of the game, when the 31-year-old desperate Neymar was trying to break a trap, he fell in a challenge and got an injury.

Neymar soon started to cry in his pain and held his knee. He was ultimately carried off the ground on a stretcher. He left the field with his two hands on his face.

Neymar left the stadium using crutches. The team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar claimed that it was too early to learn the severity of Neymar's knee injury.

After today's tests, they need to repeat these the next day to understand the condition. The team doctor wants to examine Neymar calmly with all test reports before coming to any decision.

Lasmar told the reporters, “Let’s wait for the exams with calmness, evaluate with calmness and tell you once we have a diagnosis.”

The latest defeat was Brazil's first World Cup qualifying loss in 37 matches. At the end of the CONMEBOL WC Qualifiers' 4th round, Brazil are behind Argentina and Uruguay in the points table.
