James hit 38 points in the Los Angeles Lakers' defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record, which had been unbreakable.

There was stoppage in play once James broke the record, and he was presented with a commemorative ball from NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Abdul-Jabbar to celebrate the moment.

He was also presented with a tribute video from the NBA and from his fellow teammates and celebrities.

"I think it’s one of the greatest records in sports in general. It’s one of those records that you just don’t ever see or think that would be broken." James said.

When LeBron was asked by a fan sitting courtside of the Lakers game in Detroit whether he would cry when it happens, James said he wouldn’t. If we win a championship I’ll cry. Not no scoring record.” said James “I ain’t even try to do it.”

But even though he said he wouldn't cry, LeBron could not hold back his tears while giving his speech. James wiped his eyes and thanked his family, the fans, and the NBA.

Currently in the league, there is no player who is even 10,000 points away from LeBron, so it was no surprise that LeBron teared up because this could be one of the greatest achievements in sports history.

"I would never in a million years have dreamt this to be even better than what it is tonight." said James. After this record, there is no doubt that LeBron is the greatest of all time, or the GOAT.
