The LA Lakers' star LeBron James is moving up in his scoring records. James' is just on the verge of surpassing Abdul-Jabbar's scoring record of 38,387 points at the end of his 20-year career.

James and Abdul-Jabbar have a rocky relationship marked by a number of public arguments, leading some to question whether the Hall of Famer would want to see the fall of the record that he has held for almost 40 years.

Abdul-Jabbar called James' on-court celebration "stupid and childish." He attacked him for arguing that taking the COVID-19 vaccine was a personal decision.

On the other hand, Magic Johnson claimed that losing the scoring title will be harder to accept for Abdul-Jabbar, a 19-time All-Star and a 6-time champion who retired back in 1989.

When asked in September about the possibility of passing Abdul-Jabbar and his connection with him, James responded curtly, raising eyebrows.

James replied: "No thoughts and no relationship". James had 89 points left to score before tip-off of the Lakers' game against the Pacers in Indiana to surpass Kareem Abdul-career Jabbar's total of 38,387.

Prior to returning to Los Angeles to play against the Thunder on Tuesday and the Bucks on Thursday, the Lakers will first travel to New Orleans to play the Pelicans on Saturday.

In his 20th season, the 38-year-old legend is giving back-to-back performances and shows no sign of slowing down. The four-time champion has averaged roughly 35 points per game since turning 38 on December 30.
