16-time WWE Champion John Cena made his return to the ring on the final Smackdown of 2022 after he teamed up with Kevin Owens and defeated Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.

The Hollywood star's return helped the company gain viewership as the show became the most viewed Smackdown since Christmas 2020.

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics reported that the show had 2.629 million viewers and it also scored 0.64 in the key 18-49 demographic.

The highlights of Cena's match already have over 5 million views on YouTube and therefore it's evident that the superstar's return helped the company massively.

Last week's Smackdown had several other surprises as well. Multiple-time Women's Champion Charlotte Flair made her return on the show and won the Smackdown Women's Championship.

The mysterious Uncle Howdy character also made a rare appearance on the show and shockingly attacked Bray Wyatt.

With the increase in viewership, it looks like WWE would want Cena to make more appearances in the near future.

The Peacemaker star is expected to be at WrestleMania 39 and as of now, his opponent for the show is unclear.
