16-time World Champion John Cena made a surprise return to the WWE on this week's Smackdown via satellite.

Earlier on the show, it was announced that Roman Reigns will team up with Sami Zayn to face Kevin Owens and a mystery partner on the December 30th edition of Smackdown.

John Cena was revealed as the mystery partner when he announced that he accepted Owens' request and will be facing the Tribal Chief and the Honorary Uce in two weeks.

Cena also pointed out that he's yet to have a match in 2022 and this will be his first year without a match since making his debut in 2002, he said that he won't let that streak end.

Cena's last match in the WWE was against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2021 for the WWE Universal Championship which he lost.

The Peacemaker star made a brief appearance earlier this year on Raw to celebrate 20 years in WWE but the appearance didn't lead to any feuds.

Cena is scheduled to be at WrestleMania next year in Hollywood and as of now, his opponent is unclear. Austin Theory is one name that's rumored to be Cena's opponent.

Roman Reigns meanwhile is rumored to feud with Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event next month. WWE are yet to announce the match officially.
