UFC 284 witnessed Islam Makhachev successfully defending his lightweight championship against Alexander Volkanovski.

With the victory over Alexander, Islam has now entered the history of the UFC, as he now has the highest active winning streak in the UFC with 12 consecutive victories.

However, Islam couldn't celebrate his victory as Dan Hooker, Alexander's teammate and friend, accused him of cheating and using drugs to defend the title.

Hooker accused Islam of taking the I.V. drug, which is banned in the UFC, ahead of the match with Alexander.

Fans, too, spotted a dump on the lightweight champion's left hand with a mark of injection, supporting Hooker's accusation.

The punishment for the use of IV drugs is a 2-year suspension from participation in the UFC, which is enough to put Islam's career at risk.

Alexander Volkanovski, while speaking with The MMA Hour, stated that the Dagestan fighter was weak and could have easily been defeated by him. He further said that after a brutal weight cut, Makhachev used IVs to rehydrate himself.

Islam’s manager came up with the explanation that the injection mark was due to the mandatory blood test by the AUS commission. It will be interesting to see how the UFC champion escapes this situation.
