Imprisoned Tennis Legend Returns to Action After Long Gap

German tennis legend Boris Becker is the youngest player to win the men's singles Wimbledon Championships at the age of 17. He has won six Grand Slam titles.

Boris reached the peak of his career when he became world No. 1 following his 1991 triumph in Melbourne. Becker has 64 titles under his name, including the prestigious Olympic Gold Medal.

During his stay in Britain, the tennis legend was jailed in April for illicitly transferring large amounts of money and hiding assets after he was declared bankrupt.

Becker was convicted by London’s Southwark Crown Court on four charges under the Insolvency Act, including the removal of the property, concealing debt, and two counts of failing to disclose an estate.

The 55-year-old was sentenced to 30 months in prison but was released early under a fast-track deportation program for foreign nationals.

More than 1100 foreign national offenders were removed by the Home Office's early removal program last year. As Becker was a foreign national without British citizenship who received a custodial sentence of more than 12 months, he fell under this category.

"Becker has thus served his sentence and is not subject to any penal restrictions in Germany,” his lawyer stated in a press conference.

The former world No. 1 will return to action as a consultant for Eurosport in the upcoming Australian Open. It will be interesting to see how he shapes his new career in the future.
