Brittney Griner, the W.N.B.A star and the 2 times Olympic gold medalist was released in the Russian prisoner swap on Thursday.
Griner was found guilty of drug charges. She was also accused of carrying vape cartridges and hashish oil which is illegal in Russia. She was caught at the Moscow Airport.
Griner was caught while traveling to Russia to rejoin her professional team, UMMC Yekaterinburg, during the W.N.B.A. off-season.
In Griner's Russian court case in August, she was convicted on the charge of smuggling narcotics into Russia.
Griner was sentenced to almost 10 years imprisonment in a penal colony of Russia. Her conviction appeals were denied in October and November.
Griner was swapped for Viktor Bout, the accused Russian arms dealer. Viktor is given a 25-year prison sentence and sold weapons and planned to kill Americans.
