Serena Williams won her sixth championship title and 19th overall Grand Slam singles victory in the 2015 Australian Open, which was a remarkable tennis event in her career.

Although suffering from a serious cough, Serena managed to earn the win (6-3, 7-6 (5)) against the Russian star Maria Sharapova.

After the win, Williams demonstrated a strong act of faith and stunned the audience by praising Jehovah God for her triumph in the post-presentation speech.

She said- "I've to thank Jehovah God for this. I was down and out and he helped me today and I just said prayers, not to win but to be strong and to be healthy and in the end I was able to come through so I have to give the glory to him first and foremost.”

Being a Jehovah's Witness, Serena has acknowledged that her religion has helped her get through challenging periods in her professional life.

In 2015, Serena was ranked number one in the world, but due to several injuries, she missed many tournaments and was dropped down to number eleven in the rankings, but she never gave up.

The 41-year-old was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses a few days ago, which was historic for the tennis legend. The ceremony took place at the Jehovah's Witness Assembly in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian also supports her. When asked about what he thinks about her faith, she said- "Alexis didn’t grow up going to any church, but he’s really receptive and even takes the lead. He puts my needs first.”
