Fans convinced that MMA gods were with Nate Diaz at UFC 279

MMA fans noticed a bizarre coincidence during Nate Diaz's fight against Tony Ferguson at the UFC 279 main event.

Nate Diaz won by submission in the fourth round of the contest. It was the first time Tony Ferguson got submitted in the UFC.

The referee called off the UFC 279 main event contest with 2:09 remaining in the fourth round.

Fans correlated the remaining time is 2:09 with 209, which is the area code of Nate Diaz's hometown,  Stockton. Marking it as an end of an era.

The UFC 279 was Diaz's last fight of his UFC contract. The American bids his farewell from the sport with an empathetic win.

Nate Diaz was initially supposed to fight Khamzat Chimaev but Chimaev missing his weight led to the reshuffling of the card.

Diaz's opponent Tony Ferguson was making his return to the welterweight category after more than a decade.

Ferguson is now on a 5 match-losing streak in the UFC. His last win came back in 2019 at the UFC 238 against Donal Cerrone.
