Conor McGregor, the former double champion, has claimed that he will definitely be returning to the octagon at UFC 296, scheduled for December, and that his opponent will be Michael Chandler.

McGregor had been out of the combat scene since his last outing against Dustin Poirier in 2021, but he has now been a part of The Ultimate Fighter season 31 as the opposing coach to Michael Chandler.

In about a month, McGregor called out certain fighters for a shot at him, but none came to fruition. Recently, Conor took a dig at Justin Gaethje and YouTuber-turned boxing sensation, KSI as well.

Although McGregor still has to enter the USADA testing program, which is a requirement before competing in the octagon, he plans to fight Chandler at UFC 296 on December 16.

In an interview with talkSport, Conor stated that he will be facing Michael Chandler in December, then turning all the attention to Justin Gaethje for the BMF title and Nate Diaz for a trilogy bout.

“Chandler next, December, And then Gaethje ‘BMF’ (title fight). And then we’ll do Nate trilogy.” told Conor to talkSport. Conor recently hinted that he might not fight Chandler after TUF 31.

However, UFC president Dana White assured that it is still the plan, also mentioning how Conor loves to play mind games with his possible opponents every time.

The Irishman explained the status of fighting Chandler, he stated, “I have to. I’ll just smack him. I’ll just grab him.” The confirmation is yet to be made by the promotion as fans await his return.
