Shelton Benjamin is a popular name in the world of professional wrestling. He is famous among fans for his time in WWE. Apart from that, Benjamin is also well known for his time in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and Pro Wrestling Noah.
During this time, fans knew him by the name of Shelton X Benjamin. In addition to all that, Shelton Benjamin is also popular for his work in Ring of Honor (ROH). It can thus be understood that Benjamin has participated in numerous matches while being a part of various wrestling promotions.
But now it seems there is one match that the former WWE Superstar wants to erase from his career. Here’s knowing more about it.
Shelton Benjamin was not a fan of his “racist” act against Yoshi Tatsu
In June 2009, Shelton Benjamin became a part of the ECW brand division. Thereafter, the debut of Yoshi Tatsu took place, and Tatsu faced Benjamin in his debut match. Before the beginning of the match, when Tatsu entered the ring, Benjamin did a mock Japanese impersonation.
This led to Yoshi kicking Benjamin in the head and pinning him for the win. As of now, 15 years later, it seems Shelton wants to erase this match from his career. Taking to his ‘X’ handle, the former WWE Superstar recently shared the video of the match.
Benjamin captioned the post, “If I could erase one thing in my career this is it. I’m completely and utterly disgusted by this racist shit. I’m glad the ending was my character getting kicked in the head and losing”.

Thus, it seems Shelton was against his racist act against Tatsu. In fact, he is happy that he got kicked in the head by his opponent. Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that back in 2009, Tatsu and Benjamin had a rematch the following week on ECW, where Shelton gained a victory over Yoshi.
Shelton Benjamin’s WWE career did not have a pretty ending
Shelton Benjamin became a part of WWE in 2000. Thereafter, he began performing in WWE’s developmental territory, OVW. Following that, Benjamin made his main roster debut in 2002. He then participated in several feuds and matches. But he was released from the Stamford-based promotion in 2010.
After his release, he became a part of ROH, but his run didn’t last long. Benjamin then made his debut in NJPW in 2012. He also began making appearances in Pro Wrestling Noah in 2015. Finally, Shelton once again made his return to WWE in 2017 and performed there until 2023.
Since his release from WWE in 2023, Benjamin has been showcasing his skills on the Independent Circuit. Throughout his career, Benjamin has won several championships to his name. This includes winning the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship four times, the ROH World Tag Team Championship twice, the WWE 24/7 Championship three times, and more.
It can thus be understood that Shelton Benjamin has put forward a noteworthy career in professional wrestling, but his WWE career did not have a great ending as he was released twice by the promotion. In addition, he also carries a major regret from his career. With that, it now remains to be seen what lies ahead for the former WWE Superstar in the upcoming days.
