Noah Lyles, who is promptly known as the next Usain Bolt, has often talked about breaking the world record set by the fastest man on earth in the 200-meter race. And now, he even speaks more openly about this, saying it’s just a matter of time before he breaks it.
In an interview with USA Today, Noah Lyles was asked about the all-time mark made by Usain Bolt. To which he replied saying, “I know that I’m going to break it”.
Lyles is confident in establishing his name as the supreme, as he has already broken the American record of 19.32 seconds, marked by Michael Johnson at the 1996 Olympics, by crossing the finish line in 19.31 seconds.
The 26-year-old’s next goal is to beat the remarkable record of 19.19 seconds set by the eight-time Olympic gold medalist at the 2009 World Championship.
Prior to the 2023 World Championship held in Budapest, Hungary, Lyles announced, “I’m gonna win two golds in the 100 and 200, and then we can go break the record in the four by one,” in an interview with the Olympics.
However, the sprinter couldn’t break the record and recorded a time of 19.52 seconds to win the 200-meter race. His next stop is expected to be the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, giving him another opportunity to prove his words.
Noah Lyles Wins 200m Gold But Misses Usain Bolt’s Record
When the legendary sprinter went on to compete in the 2023 World Championship in Budapest, Hungary, everyone had just one question in mind, and it wasn’t about him winning the race. ‘Will Noah Lyles break the record of Usain Bolt’s 19.19 seconds in the 200-meter race?’ As the athlete had already hyped up the championship, everyone was eager to know what would happen.
The track’s best sprinter crossed the finish line in 19.52 seconds, becoming the second-best but not the first. Though he won the race, he also became the first man since Usain Bolt in 2015 to complete the 100-200 sprint double at the world championship.

Winning the 200-meter race at a record of 19.52 seconds, Lyles won his third consecutive world championship in 200m. He surprised nearly everyone by first winning the 100 and then, giving a remarkable performance in his specialty, the 200 meters. “The 100 is fun, but the 200, you know, this one is personal to me,” he said.
However, it is still to be seen whether Noah Lyles will get another opportunity to fulfill his goal in 2024. Do let us know in the comments.
