Trigger warning: This story is about a violent assault
Riley Gaines has received support from Jordan Peterson in her battle against the inclusion of transwomen in women’s sports. However, in this case, sports was not involved.
In a horrifying incident, a transwoman, Scarlet Blake, has been sentenced to life for the murder of a man months after she filmed herself killing her cat. Reputable news sites posted the development stating she was a woman. A few have taken offense to the omission of the fact that she was a transgender woman.
Famous writer J.K. Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter series, was first on the scene. Sky News posted the news on their X account with the caption, “A woman who filmed herself killing a cat before putting the animal in a blender has been jailed for life for murdering a man four months later.”
I’m so sick of this shit. This is not a woman. These are #NotOurCrimes https://t.co/ycjWefLCiw

Rowling reposted the tweet and claimed that this was not a woman. She wrote, “I’m so sick of this shit. This is not a woman. These are #NotOurCrimes”
Rowling’s post further received traction from Gaines. She reposted Rowling’s comments and captioned it with fire emojis. Gaines implicated support and agreement to Rowling’s statement.
Enough politeness.
It’s time to call a spade a spade. https://t.co/7SYEjyNpqM— Dr Jordan B Peterson (@jordanbpeterson) February 27, 2024
The chain was further strengthened by Jordan Peterson. He reposted Gaines’ comments and wrote, “Enough politeness. It’s time to call a spade a spade.”
Each of them has been vocal about their stance. They have even been on the receiving end of backlash from many for their statements but they have not wavered.
Riley Gaines believes it is necessary to segregate genders in places
Gaines was a member of the swimming team at her alma mater University of Kentucky. She encountered Lia Thomas, an openly trans-woman competing in the NCAA women’s division, in 2022. Since then, Gaines believed the inclusion of transgender women in women’s sports is unfair.
She has lobbied against the inclusion of trans women in the women’s division of sports. Gaines has also politically involved herself a lot and given speeches regarding her stance.
In 2023, she was interviewed by Canadian psychologist and author Jordan Peterson. Like Gaines, Peterson has also suffered the wrath of people who oppose his views. During their interview, they discussed when there should be a division between genders.
Gaines said, “I think any place where either of the sexes is vulnerable, whether that be in regards to privacy in regards to safety, in regards to anything that relies on your physiology – because of course men and women are physiologically different – I think that’s where that sex protection based rights are important.
So, prisons, that’s an area where women specifically are vulnerable. Of course shelters, again bathrooms, locker rooms, no woman should be subjected to having a male in that space.”
Gaines went on to explain that it is not necessary that segregation takes place everywhere but specific places are necessary. The pair discussed several other topics in the interview which lasted almost two hours.
