At the age of 23, Jon Jones clinched the Light Heavyweight Championship in 2011, becoming the youngest titleholder in UFC history. At that point, he appeared invincible, with limitless potential. However, the journey for ‘Jonny Bones’ has been tumultuous ever since, marked by a combination of remarkable triumphs and challenges outside the Octagon.
Jones has had his share of controversies, but the Heavyweight Champion seemed to have taken a positive turn in recent years. However, videos on the internet that are decades old can go viral on social media in a matter of hours.
Something similar happened with the UFC Heavyweight Champion, and an old advertisement has been doing the rounds on social media where Jon Jones is featured along with UFC legend Urijah Faber and actor Danny McBride. The latter here is playing a fictional character called Kenny Powers from the popular show Eastbound and Down.
Powers thrives on showcasing his “fame” and imposing absurd requests, and that’s precisely what unfolds during his encounter with the potential sponsor, K-Swiss. Whether or not the fans are familiar with “Eastbound and Down,” the Audience will find amusement in Kenny’s unconventional approach to a “meeting,” characterized by a barrage of insults directed toward the people around him.
In his newfound role at the footwear company, Powers enlisted actual athletes such as MMA Champions ‘Bones’ and ‘The California Kid’ to join his team. In the clip that has been going viral, Powers can be seen having fun with the two MMA Champions while they are sweating hard in their training.
Staying in his character, Powers is impressed by ”The People Killer” Jones but takes a dig at the MMA legend Faber.
Jon Jones’ other controversial advertisement went viral, in which he kicked a child
This was not the only old advertisement video featuring Jon Jones that made news recently. A promotional video for UFC on Fox, which came out as many as twelve years ago, recently went viral, and this one attracted a lot of controversy too. In the clip in question, Jones is seen kicking a kid on the swing.
It is obviously done in a completely harmless way. However, the clip involved Jones and fight fans would know that he is one of the most controversial fighters out there. So, it was only a matter of time for the fans to point this out. Nevertheless, fans also believe that the marketing department of the UFC was at fault for this, not the Heavyweight Champion.
