SUMMARY
- Max Holloway is coming off a spectacular KO win against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.
- On his recent JRE appearance, Holloway revealed his ambitious future plans.
Max Holloway is riding a wave of momentum since his win at UFC 300. Holloway was already a massive superstar thanks to his featherweight title reign. However, he is now a BMF champion as well after the last-second win against Justin Gaethje. The final few moments of their UFC 300 clash will go down as perhaps the most entertaining sequence in UFC history which ended in Gaethje getting knocked out.
With the win, a lot of options have opened up for the Hawaiian fighter. He is currently ranked in both featherweight and lightweight divisions. While a clash against Ilia Topuria seems inevitable for Holloway, the “Blessed” is gunning for a historic achievement that no other fighter has been able to accomplish. Holloway recently appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast and revealed what he wants to do in the near future.
During JRE MMA Show #155, Max said, “I’d be stupid to not say to fight Conor (McGregor). You know, I think the Conor fight would be huge, whatever. But we don’t know what he’s gonna do. So if that’s out, in a perfect world to me would be, fight Ilia, 45 (featherweight) title, get my hand raised and whoever is the next guy up at 55 (lightweight), fight them try and go for double champ status, whatever it is. Or even three belts. You know, 45, BMF, and put the BMF and the 55 against whoever at 55. And that’d be surreal, I think that’ll be crazy”
After the UFC 300 fight, Ilia Topuria came out with the statement that he was not impressed with the way Holloway performed. While Alexander Volknovski and Movsar Evloev are there, Topuria only seems to be interested in the Max fight. However, featherweight and lightweight are not the only divisions Holloway has his eyes on.
Max Holloway wants to challenge for the 165lbs championship
As MMA fans already know, UFC 303 will witness the return of Conor McGregor. However, his comeback fight against Michael Chandler will not happen at lightweight. The McGregor vs. Chandler bout will take place in the welterweight division. However, there is an urge from the MMA community to book the fight at 165lbs and put an inaugural championship on the line. If that happens, Max Holloway is already aiming to fight for it.
During the podcast, Joe Rogan asked Max about his thoughts on not having to cut weight for the potential 165lbs division. To answer that, the 32-year-old said, “That’d be insane. If they did 165, that’d be fun… I’d eat sushi weigh-in day. I’d eat it on the scale.”
However, there is no official announcement if the McGregor-Chandler fight will indeed have a title on the line or not. But, if it does end up happening and if Max can take away the title from the winner, it will be a major feather to his cap.
Max Holloway can be the first UFC fighter to have four championships simultaneously
All joking aside, if Max is able to accomplish what he said he wants to, it’d create history. Conor McGregor is the first-ever UFC double champ. Khabib Nurmagomedov retired maintaining his undefeated record. However, Holloway has the chance to wear four belts at once currently. He can win in the featherweight, lightweight, and the potential 165lbs championships if it all goes according to his plan.

On top of that, Holloway already has the BMF title. Fighters like Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, and BJ Penn have held two separate weight-class belts on separate occasions. On the other hand, Daniel Cormier, Henry Cejudo, and Amanda Nunes have held two titles at once. However, if Max can really pull it off and have four belts at his disposal, it’d put him in the GOAT debate right away.
So, it looks like the former featherweight champion is on the brink of achieving something that Conor, Khabib, and even Jon Jones can only dream of accomplishing. Although it is a long shot, do you think Max Holloway can pull it off? Let us know in the comments below.
