Gender politics is taking America by storm, as former Lightweight champion of the UFC, Khabib Nurmagomedov gets engulfed in it. At a recent event in Las Vegas, the undefeated fighter was asked about his views on the number of genders in this world. Khabib, with an orthodox and traditional Islamic upbringing, gave an interesting reply.
The said response created quite a debate online, with polarising opinions coming in from all factions of social media. Khabib, in his broken English, shared an incident in his recent past to drive his point further. He said, “I only know men and women. There’s nothing in between. It’s crazy. A few weeks ago I was in California and I went to a cafe. I wanted to go to the bathroom.”

“They showed me where to go. I go upstairs and there are two doors that say “For all genders.” This left him in a state of confusion, as he had to knock to make sure he was entering the right bathroom. He continued, “I grew up in a very traditional place, big mountains, and I’m very happy with this. We had only 2 genders.”
Social media had a field day with these comments as one fan said, “Not expecting anything less from a champ”. Another fan stated Khabib’s response as part of the reason he’s the greatest of all time, saying, “The GOAT for a reason.” Unsurprisingly, this is not the first time the Dagestani fighter has found himself in the hotbed of controversy because of his conservative views.
Khabib Nurmagomedov feels ring girls don’t belong in the UFC Octagon
A few years ago Nurmagomedov gave his views on the presence of ring girls in the Octagon, which caused quite the uproar. “Look, I don’t want to offend anyone, ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts,” he said at a press conference in Moscow.
He further added, “What is their purpose? I have a question. You can show that it is the second round on the screen. I realize that is history. History knows many mistakes. We read history to avoid mistakes of the past in the future. If we look in history, it says they are useless. That is my personal opinion.”
This had many UFC fighters seething, including Conor McGregor and Michael Bisping, who disagreed and condemned his views online. A stronger reaction to Khabib’s views regarding the ring girls was evoked in former Women’s Flyweight Champion of the UFC, Valentina Shevchenko. She was of the opinion that ring girls are absolutely essential for the UFC, as without them the whole production would be boring.
