Georges St-Pierre is arguably not just the greatest UFC fighter but the greatest ever in the history of MMA. While speaking about the dominance inside the Octagon, there is always a mention of the MMA’s greatest. Also known by the name ‘Rush,’ he retired from the UFC in 2017 and fans have been missing the fight genius ever since.
To fans’ delight and much wait, GSP is finally making a great comeback later this year with a grappling match. The much-awaited contest is going to take place at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6 this December 14th.
On July 20th former UFC fighter Demian Maia tweeted that he was going to be the opponent for the comeback fight of the great GSP. He wrote an emotional tweet describing GSP’s greatness and also believed him to be a tough challenger, opponent, and a great source of motivation.
Despite how this tweet is worded I’m told GSP’s opponent for his grappling match hasn’t been finalized and a number of potential opponents are still being discussed. https://t.co/TRRjQrKLEK

However, Mike Bohn, a senior reporter at USA Today’s MMA Junkie revealed that he has been informed that GSP’s opponent for the match scheduled for later this year has not been confirmed yet. As the tweet is from the fighter Damien Maia himself and not the official accounts of UFC, there is nothing certain. We will have to wait to see who the legend chooses to lock horns with for his UFC return.
The reporter confirms Georges St-Pierre has no opponent lined up as of now
MMA Junkie senior reporter Bohn also wrote about how GSP himself had disclosed that UFC management had given him a list of potential candidates whom he could fight depending on availability. No name has been finalized yet in regard to the comeback match.
In a podcast with former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, ‘Rush’ revealed that the most requested fighter as an opponent for him in the grappling match is Nick Diaz. “I got some names now that came out and apparently, most of the fans, the UFC, they really want — they would like me to grapple against Nick Diaz,”– said GSP in Michael Bisping’s podcast.
Rumors also had it that another UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov was going to come out of retirement for the legendary battle between the two veterans for the sport. However, Khabib’s coach Javier Mendez had confirmed that there was no way ‘The Eagle’ was going to come back to the fight game.
“More devoted time for the family and knowing him, any challenge is work. So he’s going to have to stay focused on one particular thing. He’s not going to take it lightly if he does. So, I don’t see that happening, but I could be wrong. I never spoke to him about it, if it’s of any interest to him. But in my opinion, there is no better match to make than that one.” – said Javier Mendez to MMA Junkie.
Georges St-Pierre is one of the greatest to ever play the sport. Fans want a worthy opponent for this much-anticipated return of the legendary fighter. We will have to wait for the official announcement to know whether it is Demian Maia or someone else that the MMA’s greatest will be fighting against.
