Joe Rogan is a dynamic personality who excels in MMA as a fighter and as a commentator. However, he was not always the same. Rogan opened up about how he went through a difficult childhood during an episode of his podcast.
On Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) #2063, Rogan was in conversation with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The UFC commentator detailed his experiences as a child. He moved a lot as a kid because of his stepdad moving cities. On the other hand, Johnson added that he had stayed in over 10 states in the early stages of his life.
Rogan explained how moving cities led to him not having many friends. That in turn led him to have social nervousness. However, MMA saved him.

Rogan said, “We moved a lot when I was a kid… I always was insecure because we’re always moving around a lot and my life was kind of chaotic and my family life was chaotic and I just felt like a loser. I always felt I gotta hide from people, socially nervous around people [and] I just felt like there were certain people who were winners in life and I was not that, I was a loser.”
However, things changed for Rogan when he took up MMA. He was good at the sport from the very beginning and that gave him immense confidence. He added, “And then I started doing martial arts and I got really good at it… And I realized like ‘Oh I’m not a loser I just have to find a thing and f*cking get after it.'”
With Rogan owing so much to MMA, you will be surprised to know that the 56-year-old never fought a professional MMA bout in his life.
