Daniel Cormier is seemingly done with his NCAA commentary job after fans troll him for his commentary. Since coming over from Strikeforce, Cormier won the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight titles and became only the second fighter to hold two separate divisional championships at the same time. Hence, many fans remember him for his time in the Octagon. However, nothing would have been possible without his amateur wrestling background.
Cormier is an NCAA Division I wrestler who has represented the USA in freestyle wrestling Pan American Games and World Championships. He also represented the country in several Greco-Roman wrestling competitions such as the Cadet World Championships in 1995. He also came close to securing an Olympic medal in 2004 and missed out on going to the 2008 Olympics after kidney failure.
Hence, DC has a very deep connection with the amateur wrestling scenes. The 45-year-old is perhaps the most knowledgeable amateur wrestler and he recently took the job of commentating on the NCAA wrestling tournaments. Although fans were initially excited about it, they have now turned against DC and it looks like the Louisiana native has decided to quit his job.
Daniel Cormier quits his NCAA gig after fan backlash
Daniel Cormier has a very distinct style of commentary that is not everyone’s cup of tea. Even during his UFC commentary, many have complained that he is too casual while calling the bouts. DC brings in a vibe where the fans feel as if they’re hanging out with their friends instead of hearing a professional dissection of the action that is unfolding before their eyes.
While it is entertaining to hear for a certain section of the fans, others prefer someone like Paul Felder or Dominick Cruz who provide exquisite analysis. Now, it looks like the NCAA watchers have the same problem with Cormier. After his recent gig, some amateur wrestling fans have questioned DC’s “professionalism” and the former UFC fighter has had enough!
Guys im out. This will be my last time doing the NcAA tournament. Continue to do things the same way and stay wrestling that hasn’t changed since the 40’s. I told the general public to watch a guy told me he’d rather tear his eyes out than watch. So enjoy. I’ll finish tonight… https://t.co/QP3tAMcdzN

Seemingly quitting his job DC wrote, “Guys im out. This will be my last time doing the NcAA tournament. Continue to do things the same way and stay wrestling that hasn’t changed since the 40’s. I told the general public to watch a guy told me he’d rather tear his eyes out than watch. So enjoy. I’ll finish tonight and I’m out!”
After his online burst, one fan also questioned why Cormier did not quit UFC commentary despite the same feedback from MMA fans. In response, Daniel Cormier simply added, “I get paid a lot there lol.”
However, it was not all negative either. Former NFL star and WWE commentator, Pat McAfee, seemingly enjoyed the calls from Daniel Cormier and Jordan Burroughs during the ESPN broadcast. But, after the overwhelmingly negative reaction from the fans, the lifelong wrestling follower is seemingly done with the sport, at least in terms of commentary. What are your thoughts on the matter?
