Dana White broke his BMF belt promise
Previously UFC announced that the BMF belt will be a one-time thing however it looks like they are backtracking. BMF belt will now make its return with a potential fight between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.
Presented for the first time to Jorge Masvidal following his victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 244, ‘Gamebred’ went on to lose four consecutive fights.
In the meantime, his BMF belt was gathering dust on the rack, and his image as a certified ‘Bad Motherf-cker’ faded. Masvidal, on the other hand, just declared his retirement from MMA fighting. And the UFC determined that an impending rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje was the ideal opportunity to reintroduce the gimmick.
“I don’t know,” White responded when eager fans asked if the BMF best would be contested. “When you think about coming up with it the first time, those were the two right guys. And so are these, these are the two right guys for that, too. Whether that thing’s in play or not in play, that fight is what it is. But everybody wants that belt. So, what the hell?” Dana added.
According to reports, Former UFC double-champion and now UFC and ESPN speaking head Daniel Cormier discussed the reintroduction of the UFC’s ‘just for funsies’ promo belt. In his opinion, if the UFC intends to resurrect it with a legitimate fight like Poirier vs. Gaethje, they ought to be prepared to switch around the belt with championship defenses.
