Conor McGregor has got one up on Khabib Nurmagomedov as he was recently awarded his black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The former UFC champion added yet another accolade to his long list of accomplishments. However, McGregor’s triumph has helped him mark his dominance over Khabib, whose jiu-jitsu level doesn’t even come close to Conor.
Conor McGregor shared his latest achievement in his career on his social media accounts. The Irish Bellator took nine years to graduate from brown belt to black belt, under the expert guidance of long-time coach John Kavanagh. Celebrating his feat, McGregor wrote, “Received my black belt tonight from my coach, friend, and mentor, John Kavanagh of SBG Ireland. 20 years of hard work!“

He further thanked John Kavanagh and his teammates who have been part of his jiu-jitsu journey. Conor McGregor’s achievement also brings back to light a tweet he had shared way around ten years ago. Back in 2013, McGregor tweeted about the four things he wanted to achieve in his career. The list included- two gold belts, a jiu-jitsu black belt, a Hall of Fame plaque, and $25 million in his bank account.
I just want two gold belts, a jiu-jitsu blackbelt, a hall of fame plaque and 25 million in the bank. Is that too much to ask? Gym time!!

By winning the black belt, two UFC champion belts, and a net worth of around $200 million, there’s only one thing missing from Conor McGregor’s list. However, the black belt will also be satisfying for McGregor, since his fierce rival Khabib Nurmagomedov is only a white belt. While he has a black belt in judo, he’s still four levels behind McGregor in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated Conor McGregor and submitted him
While Conor McGregor might be ahead of Khabib in jiu-jitsu, he was no match for Khabib back in 2018. A packed T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas witnessed the Russian fighter defeat McGregor by submission at UFC 229. McGregor, who was overpowered by Khabib’s “fulcrum choke“, was forced to tap out in the fourth round of the match.
Popular UFC commentator and broadcaster Joe Rogan even termed Khabib’s technique as “nasty.” However, Khabib’s night of victory was marred by a brawl. Following his win, the 34-year-old star jumped out of the ring and attacked Dillon Danis, McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach. Two people also jumped into the ring and attacked McGregor, who was still reeling from the defeat.

UFC head Dana White condemned Khabib’s actions and said that it was “a very bad night for UFC.” Following the incident, Khabib was also suspended for nine months and was handed a $500,000 fine. However, Khabib’s suspension was later reduced by NSAC so that he could take on Dustin Poirier to defend his lightweight title at UFC 242.
