It appears as if Colby Covington is on the brink of giving up his hope of becoming UFC’s welterweight champion. Colby was previously UFC’s interim welterweight title holder before being stripped of it. He did recently get another shot at becoming the welterweight champion at UFC 296 but blew up his chance. However, it seems that the American MMA star is mulling over his retirement plans.
Colby Covington recently appeared in an interview with Tucker Carlson. During the interview, Covington discussed various subjects, including his fervent support for former US President Donald Trump. He also talked about his plans for the future and how long he still wants to continue in the UFC. Fortunately for the UFC supporters, Covington has assured that he is staying for at least the next couple of years.
Covington said, “I still got a lot of good years ahead of me and I feel in my prime right now.” In addition to this, ‘Chaos’ stated that he feels there’s more to life than fighting and said, “I have more ambitions in life than just fighting in a cage.“He admitted that he wanted to bring about a change in the United States that he wanted when he was a child.
Lastly, Colby Covington talked about how the American MMA artist Daniel Cormier became a heavyweight champion at 41 years of age. Currently, Covington has unsuccessfully challenged for the UFC welterweight title thrice. His first two defeats came against Kumaru Usman. Colby’s most recent defeat came at UFC 296 against the reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
Colby Covington aims to follow in the footsteps of Donald Trump
Colby Covington is reportedly planning on taking his passionate support for Donald Trump to the next level. The 35-year-old fighter is a self-proclaimed fanatic of the 45th US president. He even recently demanded that Trump should walk out with him at UFC 296, which UFC president Dana White denied. Nevertheless, Covington is planning on following in Trump’s footsteps after retiring from the UFC.
During his appearance on the PBD Podcast, Covington stated that he wants to run for Congress in a few year’s time. He said, “I definitely would like to run for Congress in a few years, I think I’d be the perfect fighter. I’m not a guy that’s going to sell out to the establishment.”
Moreover, he called himself the “Donald Trump of the UFC” and admitted that he looks up to Trump as his mentor. Lastly, Covington stated that he believes he can contribute to the Republican versus Conservative movement and vowed to even die fighting for Donald Trump.
