It wasn’t very long ago that Charles Oliveira announced to the world that he would drop down to featherweight should he emerge victoriously against Islam Makhachev back at UFC 280. It was after Alexander Volkanovski was named as the standby for the hugely anticipated lightweight fight late last year. However, as it turned out, Oliveira dropped a submission loss against the Dagestani fighter, dropping the lightweight gold.
Now, all eyes have turned to Islam Makhachev, who will welcome Alexander Volkanovski to the UFC’s lightweight division as the Australian fighter attempts to become a two-division champion. Meanwhile, Makhachev will look to defend his gold for the first time since becoming the lightweight champion back at UFC 280.
And to witness the spectacle, Charles Oliveira will make his presence felt inside RAC Arena this weekend. The Brazilian fighter is currently enjoying a great time with Australian fighters Tai Tuivasa and New Zealand mixed martial artist Carlos Ulberg.

It’s safe to say, Oliveira’s eyes will be on the winner of the UFC 284 headliner and we couldn’t have been more excited. Oliveira has expressed his desire to fight Makhachev in a rematch for the UFC gold, and while it doesn’t seem likely, a match-up against Alexander Volkanovski certainly sounds enticing should the Australian fighter get past Makhachev this weekend.
Ahead of UFC 284 in Perth, Oliveira could be seen enjoying his time fishing along with Tuivasa, who could be spotted having a beer in the photos doing rounds on social media.
It won’t be wrong to say, after a series of harsh weight cuts, it’s unlikely Oliveira would drop down to the featherweight division. Additionally, Oliveira is all set to take on Beneill Dariush at UFC 288 on May 6 later this year, confirmed Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
Needless to say, a win over Dariush puts Oliveira right on top of the list for another title shot. Do you think Oliveira gets past Beneil Dariush?
