- The elder Evloev sibling has won the world championship twice- in 2018 and 2019.
Movsar Evloev is one of the brightest young and upcoming prospects in the UFC. Competing in the ever-changing featherweight division, Movsar has clear aspirations to be a champion one day. In doing so, he would be keeping up with his elder brother, Musa Evloev, as well.
For those unaware, Movsar has been smothering his opponents since his arrival in 2019. Throughout his tenure, Movsar has collected wins in all seven of his fights. Aside from his matchup against Nik Lentz at UFC 257, which ended in a split decision, the Russian has won all his fights via unanimous decisions.
Despite complaints over his limited skillset and ‘boring’ fights, Evloev has continued on an upward. After collecting a big win over Dan Ige, the youngster managed to break into the featherweight top 10. However, it is clear that he will only be satisfied after he gets the belt wrapped around his waist.
Who is Musa Evloev and how is his relationship with brother Movsar Evloev?
As mentioned previously, Movsar Evloev also has an older brother, Musa Evloev. For those unaware, Musa is a Russian Greco-Roman wrestler hailing from Sunzha town in the Ingushetia province of Russia. Notably, the 30-year-old made waves after winning gold at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2020 in the 97 kg bracket.
Additionally, the elder Evloev sibling has won the world championship twice- in 2018 and 2019. Similarly, he has also won the Russian national championship twice: first in 2016, then again in 2017. Moreover, the following year also saw him place second at the World Championship and win the Wrestling World Cup.
Having won two continental championships, Musa is widely regarded as one of the best in the world. As such, his skills and experience have seemingly rubbed off on his younger brother, who is displaying a similar dominance. Although Movsar is known to train at the American Top Team, the brothers do spend time together during their off-seasons.
Movsar Evloev fighting style
As mentioned previously, Movsar’s skill and fighting style is inspired by his elder brother. However, this has not stopped him from putting his own twist on it. Often labeled as a boring fighter, Evloev has promised to up his game and incorporate newer skills into his arsenal. As such, fans may well be in for a completely different fighter come UFC 297.
Ahead of UFC 297, Movsar spoke to the media about his style. “You know I have another style. I win my fights without mistakes. (My) style of wrestling is not easy. My style is not Jiu-jitsu or striking. I’m a street wrestler.” Further, he added, “In the next fight (at UFC 297), I’ll show everybody that I can do other things too”.
Taking on the #4-ranked featherweight contender, Arnold Allen, Evloev will face his toughest challenge yet. Despite recognizing his opponent’s strength in the stand-up department, Movsar believes that he can take Allen into deep waters. All things considered, the matchup will make for an exciting watch, and fans will be eager to see who comes out on top.
