The current UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards is among the top MMA fighters. He became the second British fighter who win a UFC title. Edwards achieved the victory against Kamaru Usman in August 2022. And soon, he’ll be making his second title defense against the former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion Colby Covington.
UFC CEO Dana White, in his latest interview, has revealed the fight card for the upcoming UFC 296 event in December. White mentioned that the December pay-per-view will feature two title fights. And, the main event will feature one of the most-awaited fights between Colby Covington and Leon Edwards.
For “Chaos”, he’s extremely excited for his upcoming fight as he will be fighting after a long time. He last fought at UFC 272. Recently, he joined James Lynch’s podcast where he discussed everything related to the on-the-horizon clash. During the conversation, Covington was asked about his opinion on British fighter Leon Edwards to which he gave a savage statement.

Covington claimed, “He’s bland, He’s unoriginal, He’s just gonna sit there and mumble..ma-ma-ma-ma, head shot dead…head shot dead. Bro you don’t even have guns in the UK homie, I say strapped here in America so don’t be coming and talking like head shot dead….So, I can’t wait, I’m gonna shut that fu**ing mumbling fumbling idiot up on December 16th.”
Fans were surprised after listening to Covington’s words for Leon Edwards. It is the phrase Edwards used when he won the welterweight title in London. However, Colby Covington appears to not take Edwards very seriously.
Fans are now waiting for a response from the current title holder as he might take it as disrespect. After all, he’s targeting Edwards’ British origin.
Colby Covington is excited for his UFC 296 title fight against Leon Edwards
In conversation with James Lynch, Colby Covington discussed how he felt after the announcement of his upcoming title fight. According to him, he is very confident about this clash. Even though Edwards is a great striker and can defend against takedowns well, Covington thinks he has the upper hand in the fight.
He asserted, “It’s a great matchup, I love fighting southpaws. There’s a reason he’s delaying this matchup, he knows it’s the hardest stylistic fight for him and for me, it’s just another fight, another big pay-per-view main event.”

Covington further talked about how he’ll be striking Edwards down again and again in the fight. For Chaos, it might seem easy, but Leon Edwards is a strong fighter. He successfully defended his title in a rematch with Kamaru Usman earlier this year.
Colby Covington not only challenged Leon Edwards for the fight but also mentioned who he’ll be fighting next after him. As per Covington, after taking the title from Edwards, he’ll be squaring off against Islam Makhachev, who currently competes in the featherweight division. Makhachev has recently talked about his division move to welterweight.
After so much going on, fans can’t wait for December’s event as the clash is going to be one of the best UFC fights.
