Joe Rogan, famous in the combat sports world because of his UFC commentary, recently weighed in on the brawl between Floyd Mayweather and his opponent John Gotti III. If the name sounds familiar to the readers, it is because he is the grandson of the notorious mobster John Joseph Gotti. However, Gotti III decided to rule the world of combat sports and made a big enough name for himself that he had the chance to fight Floyd Mayweather.
After stepping away from professional fighting in 2017 following his win against Conor McGregor, Mayweather has been doing exhibition matches for a while. He even fought famous YouTuber and WWE star, Logan Paul. While his other showcase bouts went off without a hitch, the contest against Gotti ended in a melee. After the referee stopped the bout, Gotti started landing illegal punches.
However, Floyd did not back down either as he answered back after avoiding some initial blows. During episode #1998 of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” the host gave his thoughts on the issue. In the episode, Rogan hosted comedian Ali Siddiq. They discussed the matter and from what the 55-year-old had to say, it seems like Rogan thought Mayweather was the clear winner during the brawl.

Joe Rogan, “So John Gotti, the mobster, his grandson (John Gotti III), so what happened was… he (Gotti III) was holding (Mayweather)… So Floyd is just piecing him up. So Floyd, you know I mean even at 46, he is the greatest of all time. And this kid is really an MMA fighter. He is a tough guy, he caught Floyd a couple of times with some good shots. But mostly, he’s just getting boxed up, boxed up by literally the greatest of all time.”
Rogan also speculated that Gotti’s continuous clinching may have been one of the reasons why the contest ultimately ended. Describing what happened afterward, Joe Rogan added, “So he (Gotti III) goes crazy and gets away from Kenny Bayless (referee) and starts whaling punches at Floyd.”
Although Joe Rogan was extremely complimentary of Mayweather, the comedian also passed comments on the exhibition fights that the 50-0 boxer puts on. According to Rogan, Mayweather would need to participate in these boxing matches for a long time to keep up with his spending habits. The UFC commentator also pointed to the many luxury watches Mayweather owns worth over $1 million to prove his point.

Throughout the first five rounds of the eight-round exhibition bout, the fighters hurled insults at each other. Despite several warnings from the ref Kenny Bayless, they did not stop barking at each other. It ultimately led to Bayless disqualifying the fighters and what happened afterward, is history. Following the brawl, Gotti received a six-month ban from the commission.
