- Gilbert Burns vs. Jack Della Maddalena stats you should know before UFC 299.
UFC 299 features many fights between the veterans of the UFC against the young prospects of MMA. While Dustin Poirier takes on Benoit Saint-Denis and Petr Yan takes on Song Yadong, Gilbert Burns will face Australian MMA fighter Jack Della Maddalena on the main card of UFC 299.
Jack Della Maddalena is on a 16-fight winning streak after losing his first two MMA fights back in 2016. JDM has 4 finishes, including 3 TKOs and 2 split decision wins, in his UFC career so far.
Even though JDM had a bad day at the office against Bassil Hafez, he bounced back with an impressive win against Kevin Holland. On the other hand, Gilbert Burns is coming off a long layoff after his loss to Belal Muhammad. Burns fought against Muhammad with a serious injury, so the layoff will certainly work in his favor at UFC 299.

Gilbert Burns has fought some of the toughest opponents in the UFC welterweight division. He has fought former champions such as Kamaru Usman and Tyron Woodley. His biggest wins in the division so far have to be against Tyron Woodley, Stephen Thompson, and Jorge Masvidal.
Besides that, Burns is no stranger to fighting hype trains in the UFC. When Burns fought Khamzat Chimaev, he nearly took Borz’s unbeaten record away from him.
On the other hand, the best part about Jack Della Maddalena is his fight IQ. He is one of the best boxers in the division, even if he has not gotten a shot to prove his boxing against high-ranked welterweights.

JDM has some holes in wrestling and grappling, but you can expect him to stuff some of the takedowns from Burns if needed at UFC 299. But, can he beat the toughness and experience of Durinho?
UFC fighter’s predictions for Gilbert Burns vs. Jack Della Maddalena
Even though JDM is a favorite to win at UFC 299, the majority of UFC fighters are picking Burns to prove everyone wrong. In interviews with James Lynch, UFC fighters like Geoff Neal, Sean Brady, and Chris Curtis predicted this fight and leaned toward Burns to get the job done.
“I think Gilbert gets it done, I think Gilbert outwrestles him. I have seen JDM gas out, I’ve never seen Gilbert gas out in a fight”– Geoff Neal stated.
“I think this is a layup for Gilbert. If you go back and watch Jack’s last fight, he got kind of exposed on the ground. I think Gilbert is gonna be able to do the same exact thing”– Sean Brady stated.
Chris Curtis, Alex Perez, Bryan Battle, Eryk Anders, and many other UFC stars also picked Gilbert Burns to beat Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 299.
It’s hard to disagree with all these UFC fighters. As an opponent, Chimaev was way more dangerous than JDM was at the moment, and yet Burns was able to steal a round from him and arguably beat him. So we can expect Burns to use his experience and wrestling to end the hype behind JDM at UFC 299.
