With the 2024 NBA Draft only a few hours away from the beginning, Trae Young was interviewed and asked about the subject in great deal. After all, Young and the Atlanta Hawks had the first pick in the NBA Draft. Therefore, they were going to pick the best player from this upcoming draft.
The majority of fans would presume that getting the #1 draft pick would make Trae and his squad happy, but he revealed that players and fans feel differently about this current situation. With that being said, let us take a closer look at what feels on this issue and his overall thoughts about the draft.
Trae Young discusses the contradicting feelings that come with getting the #1 NBA Draft pick
Keen-minded fans will know that the #1 draft pick goes to a team in the lottery. Basically a squad that finished far from playoffs contention. While getting some fresh blood onto the team might be valuable, one cannot expect a star player to avoid feeling a bittersweet demeanor. Here is what Trae Young said.
“it’s a crazy feeling like as a player. Like that’s the thing right, you have multiple lenses that you have to look through. As a fan there’s a certain way to look at it but then as someone in my position like it’s kind of different. You don’t always want to get the #1 pick because you really weren’t in the playoffs that means you’re in the lottery. As a player you really aren’t excited to be in the lottery.”
While Trae did appreciate the fact that the Hawks got the #1 pick, he made things clear that he had a lot of work to do in order to prove himself. After all, Trae wanted to be quite unique on his draft night.
Trae Young relives his draft night and unique attire
Those who have watched the NBA Draft will know that players usually dress in suits while waiting for their name to be called with a draft pick. While Young finished the season as a fairly hyped-up draft prospect, he made sure to stand out by wearing shorts during his draft ceremony.
This is a fairly brave move to make. Especially with the eyes of fans across the world focused on the event. Since the Hawks star was initially drafted by the Dallas Mavericks and traded to the Hawks for Luka Doncic, Young certainly knows what impact a right draft night choice can have for a franchise.
