WWE Hall of Famer Edge’s wife, Beth Phoenix, is a prominent figure in the world of pro wrestling. She, with her exceptional in-ring skills, has thoroughly entertained the fans. Not to mention, Beth is a three-time WWE Women’s Champion and a WWE Hall of Famer. While she has achieved a lot in her career, she has also had her fair share of struggles.
Previously Beth appeared on the Busted Open Podcast. During that, she shed light on the struggles faced by women in the world of pro wrestling. The WWE Hall of Famer said, “I would say, number one, injuries and setbacks and doubting myself and dealing with eating disorders and unhealthily trying to change my body image”.
Edge‘s wife also mentioned struggling with the “se*uality aspect of wrestling“. She then went on to highlight how she had to compromise her authenticity to make a name for herself in the WWE. Beth stated that when she was an indie wrestler, she didn’t wear any makeup or do her hair. However, when Phoenix became a part of WWE, she had to do all those things, despite feeling uncomfortable.
The Glamazon said, “You know when I was an indie wrestler, I didn’t wear makeup, I didn’t do my hair, I was just playing this character that I wanted to be and I thought that was enough. At the time I was trying to get into the business, get into the WWE”.
She continued, “There was an image to the women that was heavily se*ualized and I had to kind of put that cape on and play that character and there was a lot of discomfort there for me for a long time.”
There are plenty of women’s wrestlers in the WWE. Some of them have even created a huge name for themselves while being a part of the promotion. However, from what Beth Phoenix said, it can be understood that their path to the top wasn’t a smooth one.
Focusing on the WWE career of Beth Phoenix
Elizabeth Copeland, or Beth Phoenix, is extremely popular among WWE fans. She has presented a career in the Stamford-based promotion that is idolized by many. In fact, she is still a part of the Triple H-led promotion.
Beth previously became a part of WWE in 2005, and after a year, she made her main roster debut. Following that, she received a huge push from the promotion and went on to dominate other women on the roster. Beth was featured in several storylines and bagged many Championships. Meanwhile, her run with the promotion came to an end in 2012 as she left the Stamford-based promotion.
However, after five years, she made her return to the Triple H-led promotion in 2017. Thereafter, she went on to wrestle on a part-time basis and also took up the role of a full-time commentator. With such varied roles and a long-stretched career, Phoenix has left a huge impact on the hearts of her beloved fans.
However, the 42-year-old is currently part of the Stamford-based promotion. Though she makes sporadic appearances in the promotion, it’s been a long time since ‘The Glamazon’ has graced the ring with her presence. With that, Beth’s fans will wait eagerly to see her make an appearance inside the ring in the upcoming days.
