After a close-fought Game 3 between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, Jaylen Brown was interviewed courtside after the Celtics went up 3-0 and discussed his thoughts regarding Kyrie Irving. As most NBA fans should be aware, Kyrie spent a portion of his NBA career with the Boston Celtics and was a mentor of sorts for a young Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Although the Dallas Mavericks ended up losing a much-needed Game 3 and have next to no chance of winning an NBA championship, Brown spoke highly of his own team as well as Irving as soon as Game 3 came to an end. Since the Celtics are only 1 win away from a championship and Brown making a strong case to win the Finals MVP award, fans must be interested in hearing what he had to say.
Jaylen Brown discusses how the ‘stay ready’ players on the Boston Celtics helped get this win
While Tatum and Brown both had 30-point games, they might not have won this game without much-needed help from other players on their roster. With Kristaps Porzingis not playing in Game 3, other members of the Celtics such as Sam Hauser had to step up and take on a bigger role. When discussing Tatum breaking out of his shooting slump, Brown gave a significant amount of credit to the other players on their team.
“Man, it’s been a long time coming big-time win for us and I’m proud of how he(Tatum) played today. He came out aggressive from the start and helped us get a victory tonight…That third quarter, we made some big plays in that third quarter. Our guys that came in, our stay-ready guys came in and made shots, Sam Hauser, Payton Pritchard played well for us and we just played the right way the whole night.”
Jaylen Brown credits Kyrie Irving for having an elite performance in Game 3
Although the NBA media has tried to pass a notion that there is a sense of bad blood or frustration between Jaylen Brown and Kyrie Irving, it is safe to say that the two of them have a fair share of respect for each other. Despite the fact that JB had a solid performance himself, he did not shy away from giving Kyrie credit for keeping the Mavs in the fight throughout Game 3.

“They went on a run, they had some momentum. But we kept our poise. We made some timely baskets. We got some good shots going in. We found a way to win…Man Kyrie was great tonight. That was a vintage Kyrie performance, it just wasn’t enough.”
While Kyrie may have shown flashes of greatness in Game 3, there is no denying that his efforts went in vain given the current lead in the series that the Celtics have over Irving. Fans are left wondering when the Celtics will close out this Finals series and have mostly lost faith in the Mavs to orchestrate a comeback.
