- Kyrie has been sensational for the Dallas Mavericks throughout the postseason so far.
Jason Kidd recently discussed Kyrie Irving and the journey the NBA star has gone through over the past few seasons. As some NBA fans might be aware, Kidd is a former player himself and is currently the head coach for the Dallas Mavericks.
Kyrie was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks towards the end of last season and did not end his relationship with his former team on the best of terms. When Kidd was asked about Kyrie, he shared insight into Irving’s changes over the past season and how his perceptions of Kyrie followed in the same way. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
Kyrie Irving has been a polarizing figure in the eyes of the NBA media and fans
An argument could be made that Kyrie Irving is one of the most skilled guards in the history of the league. His ability to finish at the rim and create shots for himself is second to none. Irving has been playing at an elite level in the ongoing playoffs and has done his part in keeping the Mavs’ hopes for a championship alive.
During his time with the Dallas Mavericks, Irving has not gotten distracted by any off-court issues and has remained consistent and focused on helping his team establish themselves as postseason contenders. Jason Kidd highlighted the change in the narrative surrounding Irving.
“We don’t see that perception of what’s been written in the past. We’re only in the present. What he’s doing is rewriting his journey. When we got him, people didn’t think he was going to fit with Luka . That changed quickly. Now, they’re writing about him scoring 28. It’s a beautiful thing what he’s doing. I’ve known him a lot longer than most. He knows how to play the game the right way.”

Kidd continued, “We all have our own opinions about different things. He’s worldly, which is a beautiful thing. Most of us aren’t and we’re just stuck in our sport, but he can talk about other things. Sometimes, that scares people. I think what he’s done for us is be a leader, and he’s teaching these young men how to be pros, and that’s something we needed.”
Unlike the mainstream media, Jason Kidd celebrates Kyrie Irving for his unique stances on issues and overall perspective on life. Moreover, Kyrie’s play for his team this season has been sensational.
Irving is playing some of the best basketball in his career alongside Luka Doncic in this year’s playoffs
Statistics have revealed that Kyrie is playing some of the best basketball of his postseason career with the Dallas Mavericks so far this season. His 4th quarter and clutch time numbers are quite impressive and he is viewed as a closer for the team in cases where Luka Doncic is unable to establish his own impact.
