Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is a very polarizing figure, especially on social media. He has a reputation for not mincing his words when it comes to certain subjects. However, it is not often that Kyrgios backtracks on his statements.
The Australian has often stirred up controversies with his comments, especially on social media. Kyrgios and Morgan saw it fit to take jabs at former USWNT player Megan Rapinoe. An old clip of Rapinoe had resurfaced on social media, and it seemed that the player ignored a fan while signing an autograph.
Morgan had slammed Megan as someone with “diabolical arrogance.” Nick had agreed with Piers at the time. But it seems the Aussie has changed his opinion since then and refused to back Morgan, as he called her a “spoilt, petulant brat.”

The video clip is from 2019 but went viral again earlier this year. Morgan brought it up during the latest interview with Kyrgios, and the tennis player chose to remain neutral this time. Nick said he was not going to criticize athletes on the show. Moreover, he added that Rapinoe might have been going through something, so she might have come across as dismissive.
“Yeah, look, again: I’m not going to come on here and criticize athletes. I know that she’s got millions of fans worldwide. At this moment in time, she may have been dealing with things and may be very dismissive,” he told Morgan (via the Daily Express).
Nick added that there might have been instances where he was not amazing to every fan he met. However, he stated that he tried to stay present during these interactions.
Nick’s interview with Morgan was enlightening in ways, as he dropped tidbits of information. Most importantly, though, it sheds light on the importance of mental health.
Nick Kyrgios and Megan Rapinoe advocate for mental health
Kyrgios is one of the most controversial players in tennis. He has often found himself in the eye of the storm with the public. Kyrgios has a different side to him too, one that not many people know about.
He had confessed that he was going through a rough time and would practice self-harm. It was one of the reasons he would wear a sleeve while playing. He added that Andy Murray was one of the first people to reach out to him.
Like Kyrgios, Rapinoe is also a bit of a controversial figure. Although off the pitch, she has championed a number of great causes, including advocating for mental health. The soccer star had stated that, as an athlete, it was important to look after one’s mental health too.
Megan Rapinoe retired from soccer this year. Nick Kyrgios has been away from tennis for almost a year and will hope to make a comeback soon.
