Argentine tennis star Diego Schwartzman was recently spotted chatting with soccer legend Lionel Messi. The World Cup-winning Argentine captain recently transferred to Inter Miami and his Major League Soccer career is off to a flying start. He has already scored 3 goals in 2 games, living up to the title of GOAT.
The same cannot be said about Schwartzman, who has not had a good year so far. He has struggled to find good form and even crashed out of Wimbledon in the second round.
However, being so close to Argentina’s national hero must have helped Diego put his disappointing Wimbledon run behind him. The two were seen talking to each other when Messi was substituted and he made his way to sit next to Schwartzman.

Schwartzman was shown the exit door by Jannik Sinner in the second round of Wimbledon. The Italian player defeated Diego 7-5, 6-1, 6-2. The furthest Schwartzman has ever progressed at SW19 in his career, is the third round.
While he may have failed to make an impression on the grass court, fans were clearly amused to see the two Argentines together. A user even took a dig at the heights of the players:

It was indeed a memorable night for Schwartzman as he got to chat with soccer legends Messi and David Beckham. It must surely be one of the highlights in an otherwise disappointing year for Schwartzman.
Diego Schwartzman’s struggles continue
The Argentine tennis player started the 2023 season ranked in the 25th position. As the season progressed, there was a sharp decline in his form, and he even fell out of the top 100 rankings in June. He has to contend with 9 wins and 17 losses this season.
The contrast between Schwartzman and Messi is stark. While the former has struggled, Messi has continuously proven that he is one of the best. The last title Schwartzman won was back in 2021, while Messi won the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
Schwartzman had a lackluster outing at the Australian Open and the French Open. Throw Wimbledon into the mix, and the tennis pro has not made it past the third round in any of the slams.
While Messi’s MLS career has taken off, with 3 goals in 2 matches, Schwartzman is yet to turn things around for himself. He will participate in the Mubadala Citi DC Open next, hoping to regain his form.
