The US Open is filled with tennis stars, former players, and celebrities from all fields. The latest sensation who was seen watching the event was former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It was the quarterfinal match between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. MS Dhoni was seen chatting and laughing with his friends.
Since retiring from the sport in 2019, he has continued playing the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings. Fans were elated to see MS Dhoni again on the big screen but with a different role than usual. “Tennis just got little more popular in India,” commented one fan, indicating how his presence adds to the sport’s fame.

One fan had a funny way of describing both athletes, Carlos Alcaraz and MS Dhoni. He said, “When background artist get more attention than lead actor.” MS Dhoni’s influence on the cricketing world is unparalleled as the cheers and whistles he gets whenever donning the CSK jersey lits up all stadiums.

The 42-year-old was back with his long hairstyle as it reminded the fans of a younger version of MS Dhoni winning the 2007 ICC World Twenty20. He was last seen playing for CSK when they won the IPL trophy this year for the fifth time. MS Dhoni, with the yellow jersey, will be seen on the field next year. For now, he might watch the semifinal match of Alcaraz as he is a fan of the young champion.
MS Dhoni celebrates hat trick of appearances at US Open
It was not the first time that MS Dhoni had made his way to the US Open. His first appearance was in 2016, where he watched both semifinal matches. He watched the game of Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori and then Novak Djokovic versus Gael Monfils. A new winner has always emerged whenever MS Dhoni has visited the event, but Alcaraz will hope that won’t be true this time.
The three-time ICC trophy holder then was at last year’s event. He was present with 1983 World Cup captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev for the quarterfinal match between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The Spaniard went on to win the title as MS Dhoni’s presence can maybe work as a lucky charm. Roger Federer was at Wimbledon when Alcaraz won the title a few months ago. Now, Captain Cool is in the audience to watch the making of a future legend.

The fans will hope to see MS Dhoni when Alcaraz plays his semifinal match against Daniil Medvedev. The former wicketkeeper has not mentioned whether he will be seen in the next match. Alcaraz will hope to have a cool mind in the semifinals as the Russian plays his best on hardcourts. The defending champion might need to look around for advice, as many icons keep an eye on his game.
